Performance with Angela Melitopoulos

Here is the video remix of the screen performance I did with Angela Melitopoulos at the Berlin Documentary Forum last spring. We trawled the audiovisual archives of American society since 1945, using 16mm film, BetaCam video, video art transferred to CD-Rom and a melange of Internet sources in the attempt to find a visual translation of the ideas developed in my research  project Four Pathways through Chaos. The piece is structured around a concept from Jonathan Beller (The Cinematic Mode of Production). It opens with an extraordinary radiophonic text by Antonin Artaud and closes with a video letter by an African immigrant in Paris. Kudos to the folks at the Video Data Bank in Chicago, who made it all possible. And immense thanks to Angela for a voyage through the living intensity of historical images.
